Male headship is a flawed theology that perpetuates violence against women</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
Seeking to speak out against violence toward women, Russell Moore has succeeded only in reaffirming the Southern Baptist Convention’s denigration of women. Russell Moore is the president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention and he wrote an article titled “<a data-mce-href="http://www.russellmoore.com/2014/09/09/the-church-and-violence-against-women/" href="http://www.russellmoore.com/2014/09/09/the-church-and-violence-against-women/" style="color: #743399;">The Church and Violence Against Women</a>.” Below is one paragraph from his article. Numbering within the paragraph is mine.</div>
<div data-mce-style="padding-left: 30px;" style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px; padding-left: 30px;">
<em style="border: none; color: inherit;">We must teach from our pulpits, our Sunday school classes, and our Vacation Bible Schools that women are to be cherished, honored, and (1) protected by men. This means we teach men to reject American playboy consumerism in light of a Judgment Seat at which they will (2) give account for their care for their families. It means we explicitly tell the women in our congregations, “A man who hits you has (3) surrendered his headship, and that is the business both of the civil state in enacting public justice and of this church in enacting (4) church discipline.”</em></div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
There are four major theological points in this <em style="border: none; color: inherit;">one</em> paragraph that elevates men and diminishes women. Moore wants it taught in pulpits, Sunday school classes and in Vacation Bible Schools. Be warned. This is a dangerous theology and has no place in any pulpit or church.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
<strong style="color: black;"><em style="border: none; color: inherit;">Number 1: Protected by men</em></strong>. Women are not children who need constant protection. In fact, mothers protect their little boys and girls, and later in life, wives protect their husbands. So first off, we see that Moore diminishes women’s contribution to the safety and welfare of their homes and families.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
Instead of being <em style="border: none; color: inherit;">protected by men</em>, women may need protection <em style="border: none; color: inherit;">from</em> male family members, and other males. In the home it is often the husband, or the father, who abuses the mother and girls. The so-called protector becomes the abuser. As Moore knows, you can cherish a woman and also beat the hell out of her.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
Male religious leaders make laws against women, and women need protection from them. Most men and religious leaders will not stand up for women. Pointedly, Moore did not stand up for women in this article. Instead, he quoted male headship theology which perpetuates abuse and misuse of women.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
<strong style="color: black;">Number 2.</strong> <strong style="color: black;">Give account for their care for their families. </strong>There is NO scripture that says that husbands will give account for their care for their families at the judgment seat.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
Moore phrases this in such a way to indicate that husbands are responsible for their families. Moore believes this because the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 says it is so. <em style="border: none; color: inherit;">“He has the God-given responsibility to provide for, to protect, and to lead his family.” </em></div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
To justify the statement that Russell Moore made, you must believe that men are responsible for women and children, a condition that takes away individual personhood. In addition to taking away a woman’s personhood, it elevates man to a savior-type.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
Jesus is our standard, and since Jesus did not commit women’s care to husbands, or to males, and because Jesus did not give males authority over women, then we cannot in good stewardship of the gospel, do so either.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
<strong style="color: black;">Number 3. Surrendered his headship. </strong>Why does a man have automatic headship over his wife when he says “I Do?” And if he has automatic headship, then how on earth can he surrender it? The answer is that he cannot. If male headship is something that God gives all men during the marriage ceremony, then they cannot give it up. There is nothing in the Bible that says a man surrenders his headship if he hits his wife. <em style="border: none; color: inherit;">Nothing</em>. Male headship gives autocratic rule to husbands, and if he wants to hit his wife, then he does it.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
In fact, a commandment for male headship over a wife is not in the Bible. It is contrary to everything that Jesus said and did, and it even contradicts what the Apostle Paul said. Paul told the Corinthians that Christ is the head of every man, and that man was head of woman, which actually removes Christ from being the head of women; but then he told the Ephesians that Christ was head of the church, which is comprised of both men and women. As written, it takes a divine God and an earthly god (husband) to be the head of one woman! Surely, we have misunderstood these writings of Paul, because the words of Jesus do not give credence to this male headship teaching, and we cannot call ourselves Christians and ignore the words and actions of Christ.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
<strong style="color: black;">Number 4. Church discipline.</strong> This really opens a can of worms. The church has no discipline for abusive males. There is nothing in church by-laws that gives churches ANY authority over men or women who are not on church staff.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
However, if churches begin making such rules that apply to Christians inside and outside the church, then women will be the ones who will suffer. Jesus showed us how men react to rules and laws: remember the adulterous woman who was about to be stoned by a group of self-righteous men. We also see that with other religions. There will not be any church rules or regulations enforced against men. It won’t happen. You can count on it.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
<strong style="color: black;">So what should the church say about violence against women?</strong> The church should do as Jesus did and elevate women. The church must speak up for the equality of women in the church and home. Moore’s article reinforces male headship which is destructive to women and children. What is taught in churches, bleeds out into society, and men who do not even go to church, will use this excuse to beat their wives. In spite of Moore’s statements, the church is <em style="border: none; color: inherit;">responsible</em> for continued violence against women. The only way the church can make it unacceptable to beat, kill, or maim women and children, is to stop teaching the flawed theology of male headship.</div>
<div style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Bitstream Charter', serif; font-size: 16px; margin-bottom: 24px;">
We are the New Creation. We are Christians. It is time we act like it.</div>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Perhaps that is why the Coalition was so shocked to learn this morning that the Christian news distribution service, a subsidiary of the <a href="http://www.ccnorg.com/oldweb/index.php" style="color: #8e43cb; text-decoration: none;">Christian Communication Network</a>, has decided to censure their press release concerning the <a href="http://www.change.org/petitions/owen-strachan-for-the-sake-of-all-christians-of-all-genders-we-demand-that-cbmw-apologize-publicly-for-their-misuse-of-holy-scripture-and-for-the-inestimable-harm-suffered-by-women-and-families" style="color: #8e43cb; text-decoration: none;">petition</a> to the <a href="http://cbmw.org/" style="color: #8e43cb; text-decoration: none;">Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood</a>(CBMW). <br />
<span style="text-align: justify;">In 2010, the newly formed Freedom
for Christian Women Coalition (FreeCWC) sent by FedEx a demand that the Council
for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW) apologize for their destructive
teachings against women as outlined in the Danvers Statement, a harmful
document released in 1987 which has united churches across denominational</span><span style="text-align: justify;"> </span><span style="text-align: justify;">lines and has been adopted and implemented
within denominations and local churches worldwide.</span><br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
To date, almost four years later,
CBMW’s response has been dead silence. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
However, in 2010, Al Mohler, a
council member of CBMW and President of the Southern Baptist Theological
Seminary which is headquarters to CBMW—an influential seminary that aggressively
supports the oppression of women through the precepts of the Danvers
Statement—did attempt to censure FreeCWC through a tweet suggesting that
supporters of the Apology Demand seemed
to be confused and poorly organized. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
After four years with no response
from CBMW, the FreeCWC has now taken their demand to Change.org in the form of
a petition to Owen Strachan, Executive Director of CBMW. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
With 200+ signatures, and rising,
Christian men and women are uniting in demanding change within the evangelical
community regarding the derogatory attitudes and teachings against women
propagated through CBMW, an organization committed to the complete subjugation
of women both on earth and—according to Dr. Bruce Ware, a council member of

<h3 style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Today, Shirley Taylor invited everyone to join the FreeCWC in the signing of the petition. Will you join us? </h3>
<h3 style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Stop by her blog, <a href="http://bwebaptistwomenforequality.wordpress.com/2014/04/06/get-on-board-were-lining-up/"> bWe Baptist Women for Equality</a>, where she shares her heart for the Church and the Daughters of Zion.</h3>

<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396810414840_10534" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; direction: ltr; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.4em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
We voice a demand with the petition "Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood: For the sake of all Christians of all genders, we demand that CBMW apologize publicly for their misuse of Holy Scripture, and for the inestimable harm suffered by women and families." We and need your help to get it off the ground.</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396810414840_10798" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; direction: ltr; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.4em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Will you take 30 seconds to sign it right now? You can sign it anonymously and your name will not appear on the list. Here's the link: <a href="http://chn.ge/Ox6CnW" rel="nofollow" style="background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0); color: #2585b2; margin: 0px; outline: none; padding: 0px;" target="_blank">http://chn.ge/Ox6CnW</a></div>

We voice a demand because all previous petitions have been ignored. We cry out for justice for all those who have suffered, directly and indirectly.</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396810414840_10536" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; direction: ltr; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.4em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
At a time in our church history that the main focus should be on winning lost souls and spreading the gospel to a hurting world, we fear for the future because the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood has placed a greater priority on women’s submissive role rather than on the gospel of Jesus Christ.</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396810414840_10537" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; direction: ltr; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.4em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">
Additionally the Council on Biblical Manhood and Woman is endorsing the heresy that male headship will continue on into Heaven, and that males will eternally rule over their wives, and that wives and children will eternally be submissive to the husband and father in the family.</div>
<div id="yui_3_13_0_1_1396810414840_10538" style="background-color: white; color: #444444; direction: ltr; font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', 'Segoe UI', Helvetica, Arial, 'Lucida Grande', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.4em; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px;">

It is with that thought in mind that we make this petition.</div>

<br />
<br />
Another new article at the Associated Baptist Press News has suggested that such may be the case. <br />
<br />
<br />
<b>Bob Allen wrote on March 31st in his article <a href="http://www.abpnews.com/faith/theology/item/28519-seminary-website-lists-aspects-of-biblical-womanhood#.Uz1hcfldX_E"><i>Seminary website lists aspects of 'biblical womanhood'</i></a>:</b><br />
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
“Sadly, many times our efforts to define our values lead to misunderstanding and even negativity,” the article says. “Here at <em>Biblical Woman</em>,
we’ve encountered these misunderstandings about what we believe about
women and what we teach at Southwestern Seminary. And we decided to do
something about it. </blockquote>
<blockquote>
Sponsors say the statement isn’t intended to replace the <em>Baptist Faith and Message,</em>
which teaches that wives should submit to their husbands in the home
and that women cannot be senior pastor of a church, or the <em><a href="http://cbmw.org/core-beliefs/">Danvers Statement</a>,</em> the doctrinal basis for the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood based in Louisville, Ky.<br /><br />
“These remain two primary statements that help define what we
believe, and we’re not trying to replace either of these,” the article
says. “But we do want to share a biblical foundation for the issues
concerning a woman’s life that is for women, by women.”<br /><br />
Recently a group calling itself the Freedom for Christian Women Coalition posted an online <a href="https://www.change.org/petitions/owen-strachan-for-the-sake-of-all-christians-of-all-genders-we-demand-that-cbmw-apologize-publicly-for-their-misuse-of-holy-scripture-and-for-the-inestimable-harm-suffered-by-women-and-families">petition</a>
at Change.org accusing the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood of
putting the issue of female subordination ahead of the gospel and
demanding the retraction of teachings the petitioners say are harmful to
women.<br /><br />
The <em>Biblical Woman Statement</em> doesn’t mention that
controversy, but it defends “complementarianism,” the view that males
and females complement each other in their different roles and duties. A
2013 blog entry titled “<a href="http://www.biblicalwoman.com/2013/08/06/biblical-womanhood-101-what-we-really-teach-at-southwestern-2/" title="Permanent Link to Biblical Womanhood 101: What We Really Teach at Southwestern">Biblical Womanhood 101: What We Really Teach at Southwestern</a>” defines the view as “equal yet distinct.”</blockquote>

<br />
I suppose that time will tell if this new statement truly serves as a response to counter the FreeCWC petition. At least it's more substantive than an <a href="http://freecwc.blogspot.com/2011/10/al-mohler-thinks-were-confused.html">insulting tweet</a>. <br />
<br />
We also can't help but wonder if the new tag line and buzz phrase at CBMW will become "equal yet distinct"?<br />

says complementarianism is an attempt “to make patriarchy and
gender hierarchy more palatable to modern Christians.” While the
Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood states that man and woman

“different” as “very much unequal in privilege, power and

</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Times, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Kunsman
said the complementarian paradigm also sets up a false dichotomy
between the sexes, presenting the wife as an adversary out to usurp
her husband’s authority. Therefore it’s understandable if he
beats her, and if he does, the Bible says she cannot divorce him but
is to remain in submission as a witness in hope of converting an
unbelieving spouse.</span></span></div>

Kunsman said she is most concerned about the movement’s doctrine of
God. Complementarian theologians claim that roles of husband and wife
are modeled in the Godhead, and if the Son is “eternally
subordinate” to the Father in the Trinity, godly wives have no
right to complain about their “</span></span></span></span></span><a href="http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/helpmeet"><span style="color: #cd7e01;"><span style="text-decoration: none;"><span style="font-family: Times, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">helpmeet</span></span></span></span></span></span></a><span style="color: #221e1f;"><span style="font-family: Times, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-style: normal;"><span style="font-weight: normal;">”

their relationship to women, and “this doctrine is setting them up

<br />
</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Times, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">It
says church leaders commit sin “when they deny the love of Christ
fully to women simply because they were born female” and that
giving headship to husbands and fathers causes harm to families.</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="font-family: Times, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">The

<a href="http://chn.ge/NrF3eV" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mJ5jWHvpi68/UzG_Ykb0QwI/AAAAAAAAAPY/49NXwOfwXSc/s1600/Sign+the+petition.jpg" height="320" width="279" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;">Thank you to all who have chosen to stand up and be counted in support of equality. Below are reasons why women and men from all over the world have signed the petition demanding an apology from CBMW for their dangerous complementarian teaching against women:</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Complementarianism almost destroyed our marriage. It is anti-Christ in
the most fundamental sense- it denies the clear words of Christ for us
to love one another as Christ loved us. -- CHARLOTTE, NC<br />
<br />
Because The Bible is clear on Equality between men and women and must be upheld. -- NEBO, NC<br />
<br />
Jesus is nowhere in that document (Danver's Statement). I want people to meet Him -- DEDHAM, MA<br />
<br />
I owe women teachers and preachers an incalculable debt. I owe them, and
I owe my wife, daughters, and sisters in the faith, public resistance
to CBMW's unbiblical and destructive anti-woman doctrine and practice.
THAT is why I am signing this. -- CHICAGO, IL<br />
<br />
When understood in context, and not twisted to meet a misogynist end,
the Holy Scriptures teach an equality in Christ of all persons, and to
deny or denigrate equality in Christ and as fellow servants within
Christ's Church (of which Christ alone is Head), or worse endorsing and
encouraging abuse is antithetical to the way of Christ Jesus our Lord
and Head, the Prince of Peace. -- HAMPDEN, ME<br />
<br />
I'm signing this not just for myself, but for my children. Its this
type of harmful group think that truly distorts the Lord's Message!
When women and children use their gifts within the church - and outside
of the church - they do it for JESUS...not as some silly personal slam
called 'usurping' men. Its not about them. We do it for God just as they
should be doing. -- IL<br />
<br />
Gifts that God has given to the female half of the body of Christ with the intent to use them are lying dormant and unused. -- LOUISVILLE, KY<br />
<br />
To support a group of advocates who are working to point out gross
heresies as they relate to the role and identity of women in the church. -- HALLANDALE BEACH, FL<br />
<br />
<br />
As a women who has grown up to this kind of propaganda it has stunted my
growth and relationship with god and my husband. Always feeling like a
2nd class citizen. -- CHICAGO, IL<br />
<br />
This is just a twisted view of Christianity and as usual leaves woman abused and misused! -- GILLETTE, WY<br />
<br />
I was in an abusive marriage and was counseled by the pastor of First
Baptist Church, Hobart, IN, that it was MY fault that my husband was
abusive to me and my children. His abuse has left phsycial damage to
myself and my oldest son is now blind in his left eye. My now
ex-husband serve time in jail for his crimes. --QUARTZSITE, AZ<br />
<br />
That this is a mockery to what Christ came to accomplish. Freedom to love and serve Him without manipulation and control -- EDMONTON, CANADA<br />
<br />
CBMW is heretical and anti-biblical -- EAST HAVEN, CT<br />
<br />
Shame on you CBMW -- EDMONTON, ALBERTA, CANADA<br />
<br />
<br />
I think CBMW is wasting a lot of talent and not using the available
resources (female) to spread the gospel. It is selfish of them to think
that only men can be effective evangelists. -- WILLIS, TX<br />
<br />
From a christian worldview anyone who has genuinely experienced rebirth
or regeneration in Christ cannot accept this teaching. It is so contrary
to the spirit and teaching of Jesus.It makes me wonder if those who
teach this know Him at all. -- COH, NY<br />
<br />
Because CBMW has left the gospel of women and men as equal in function
and being and instead elevated their own cultural ideas above the
Lord's. This is wrong, and it has hurt thousands of people in many ways. -- KATY, TX<br />
<br />
Religious abuse should be countered, and strongly, at every turn. -- DALLAS, TX<br />
<br />
<br />
The Bible should not be used as a tool to subject any one people group
to the authority of another, particularly on the basis of inherent
characteristics such as race or sex. Strong evidence suggests that the
Bible has been systematically mistranslated and misinterpreted by men
holding a patriarchal cultural bias. This bias should not be confused
with the will of God. -- KITCHENER, CANADA<br />
<br />
This issue is important to me because these false teachings destroy
families and churches, destroy the bonds of trust between husbands and
wives, sisters and brothers in Christ. We are reaping and salvaging what
they have sown. -- PHENIX CITY, AL<br />
<br />
<br />
Women and children are not the property of men. That is a misperception
created by men to further their own kingdoms. It is time for mankind to
grow-up and embrace the balance and equality that comes with respecting
all humankind. -- REDONDO BEACH, CA<br />
<br />
I believe that God created all people equal -- men and women. This is
not what CBMW teaches and I believe it puts women at a disadvantage in
most arenas and at risk in their relationships. -- HAGERSTOWN, MD<br />
<br />
If you call yourself "Christian", you cannot oppress women. Jesus said
to love your neighbor as yourself. ALL people are your neighbors - even
women! I agree with everything this video says! -- CONROE, TX<br />
<br />
Because I believe it is wrong to oppress ANYONE regardless of their
race, gender or ethnicity and women are being treated as less valuable
and that is not what Christ did -- NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA<br />
<br />
To end opression against women and preach the REAL Gospel of Jesús Christ -- SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA<br />
<br />
I am against all androcratic or "males on top" systems and theologies
and practices in the church that second-class women or restrict them
because of their sex/gender from operating as equal and fully-equipped
children of God when it comes to giftings and abilities to serve in the
body of Christ as the Holy Spirit and their talents allow and enable
them. Such teachings and practices go against the Gospel and the New
Creation that Jesus proclaimed and inaugurated as the Kingdom of God. -- HIGHLAND VILLAGE, TX<br />
<br />
This is important because God made both genders to have dominion over
the earth (Gen. 1:28) - not over the other half of humanity - and in the
end all believers (both genders) with rule with God. It is important
because God is just and shows no favouritism. --WELKOM, SOUTH AFRICA<br />
<br />
I was raised under this false doctrine and still suffer its repercussions. -- CONROE, TX<br />
<br />
Women are important to God. -- VALLEYVIEW, CANADA<br />
<br />
I believe the 'male headship' paradigm that CBMW promotes is just a
poorly disguised form of idolatry, and that it, at worst, facilitates
the abuse of many women, at best it allows it. It is also a very poor
witness to the world, most societies of which are patriarchal and where
the abuse of women is rife. -- COROWA, AUSTRALIA<br />

<br />
Three and a half years later, we now voice the demand in the form of a petition at Change.org because all previous petitions have been ignored. We
cry out for justice for all those who have suffered, directly and
indirectly.<br />

Support this good cause by signing the petition. <b>You must list your name, address, and email address on the Change.org site in order for your signature to be counted,</b> but that information is <i>never </i>made public, and you do have the option to remain anonymous even after you sign.<br />

The complementarian Council for
Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW) constantly boasts that their doctrine of female
subordination and male authority is different from the philosophy of “the world.” Although
how they can make that claim with a straight face is a marvel as their position
is identical to all religions, cultures, and societies in recorded history.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Complementarian bloggers are fond
of publishing, “I was a repentant feminist” type articles. Well, here is one
they could add to their portfolios but probably won’t. New Age Mormon author,
Betty Eadie, was a feminist … until she had a psychic—out of body—near death,
experience where she was astrally projected to the “other side” and, with the
help of her spirit guides, given understanding of all things. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Eadie’s book, <i>Embraced by the Light</i> (Bantam Books,
1992), is standard New Age fare with a Mormon twist. On the “other side,” she
met a “Jesus,” (the reader must understand that the Mormon Jesus is not the
Jesus of the Bible. Mormon teaching is that he is Lucifer’s brother) who
immediately put her mind at ease about all the different world religions. He
helped her understand that ALL religions and philosophies are “precious and
important.” In other words, there is no right or wrong religion, and, in the
end, everybody gets eternal life--regardless of what they believe.</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
During her out of body experience, she learned that Jesus is not
really God and did not create everything (Col 1:16-17; John 1:1-3). This New
Age/Mormon Jesus told her that God did not create the world by himself, as the
prophet declared in Isaiah 44:24, but rather that “all people, as spirits in
the pre-mortal world took part in the creation of the world.” </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
While on the “other side,” Her spirit guides
led her to a room where there was a Council of 12 men. She wrote of this
experience saying, “As a rather independent thinker on earth, I was sensitive
to the roles of women in the world. I was concerned about their equality…had
very strong opinions as to their ability to compete with men on an equal
footing in most settings. I might have reacted unfavorably to this council of
men and no women. But I was learning to have a new perspective about the
differing roles of men and women.”</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Wow, this New Age/Mormon author,
through a demonic psychic experience, was brought into agreement with the CBMW
on the inferior status of women, both on earth and even into eternity. Eadie embraced,
what Jocelyn Andersen, in <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Woman-Gender-Slavery-Evangelical-System/dp/0979429323/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1391609399&sr=1-3&keywords=jocelyn+andersen">Woman this is WAR!</a>, (One Way Press, 2010) called, the “Evil Woman” doctrine. Eadie wrote, “I
had seen the differences between Adam and Eve. I was shown that Adam was…satisfied
with his condition in the Garden and that Eve was more restless…I understood
the peril women faced from Satan…He would try to destroy families, and
therefore humanity, by tempting <i>women</i>…I began to see the difference in the
roles between men and women, and I understood the necessity and beauty of those
roles.” </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
Betty Eadie, through one
encounter with evil spirits, during an occult experience, became a repentant feminist
and, with no apparent coaching from the CBMW, immediately began to chant the complementarian mantras of differing “roles,”
and the “evil woman” doctrine that blames women for all of the woes of the
world and teaches that women must be kept on a short leash so they don’t bring ruin
upon everyone. She even threw in the smokescreen, complementarian, argument of “no
differences” between men and women. That argument makes no sense whatsoever as anyone
with eyes can see that there are differences!</div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
What an amazing coincidence that
the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood are in complete agreement with a
doctrine of devils (the demonic manifestation of “Council of Men”) that helped
a confused Mormon woman to become a repentant feminist by helping her to understand
that the subordination of women is truly ordained by God for both time and
eternity. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oUqGwjP3dcA/UtLotqdpEKI/AAAAAAAAAKY/qV7ZdHGrZHs/s1600/FreeCWC+SERVE.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-oUqGwjP3dcA/UtLotqdpEKI/AAAAAAAAAKY/qV7ZdHGrZHs/s1600/FreeCWC+SERVE.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
The Son of Man came not to be served but to
serve … Take my yoke upon you and learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart….<br />
<br />
How do we, as Christians apply these words, spoken by the Lord of the universe,
to our everyday lives?<br />
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Jesus said that if we love the Lord with all
our heart soul and strength and love our neighbor as ourselves, that we have
fulfilled <i>all</i> of the law and <i>all</i> of the prophets. This is repeated by
the apostle who instructed us to “fulfill the law of love” and “bear one
another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. The New Testament teaching is
“…therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.”</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
That’s it? Simply walk in love? That is all
we have to do, nothing else, and we can know that we are following Christ in a totally biblical way? </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Knowing the natural inclination of humans is to dissect
and “systematically” apply biblical teachings in a way that increases burdens
on those who love Him, our gracious God gave firm warning not to add to or take
away from his Word. In spite of this, Christians are continually being
corrupted from the simplicity of Christ by leaders who insist that they alone hold
the key to understanding and applying the principles of scripture to our daily
lives. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<b>Example<o:p></o:p></b></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
In reading through a blog, edited by a complementarian
wife for the purpose of coaching Christian women in the art of how to be good
Christian wives, the statement was made, “I was born to serve.” </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
On the surface, that is a laudable, Christ-like,
attitude. Who can argue that? Who would want to argue with that? We are, indeed,
all born to follow the example of our Lord and serve one another. But it is
important to remember—always—the source of where such statements such as “I was
born to serve” come from. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
A writer, or speaker, may say something as
simple as, “I was born to serve,” and it may have a profoundly different meaning
to the one writing or speaking than to the ones reading or listening. And when
a <i>complementarian </i>wife makes such a
statement, she is often doing no more than parroting a complementarian slogan
that really means, “My “role” is that I was born to serve … (help or assist) …
my <i>husband</i>.” </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Complementarian husbands are also taught that
they are born to serve. That’s a good thing … on the surface. But, again, when
we look deeper within the paradigm of complementarianism, that statement has its
own unique flavor when applied to complementarian husbands who are taught that service
to their wives and children consists of living out their “roles” of leader. Complementarian
husbands call themselves “servant-<i>leaders</i>.”
</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
Thus, within complementarianism, the wife serves by “helping,” and the husband serves by “leading.” A very convenient situation for the husband.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
The [blogging] wife, who wrote that she was
born to serve, stated that both she and her husband worked full time jobs, not
an unusual situation even within complementarian homes. She pointed out that, in addition to her full time job, the responsibility for caring for the
home and children and “creating the home” was completely hers. So, on any given
workday morning, she takes responsibility for getting the children up, fed, and
dressed for school or day care (having made sure the night before that they all
had clean clothes and backpacks ready for the next day). In addition to
preparing breakfast for the family, she also has to make sure she has clean
clothes for herself and has to find time to get herself ready for work each
morning as well. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
She accepts that her husband is not responsible
to help her with any of these things. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
In addition to an already very heavy work
load, she wrote that part of her Christian service to her husband is to also make
sure that <i>his</i> clothing was always washed,
pressed, and ready for him each morning--in order to take stress off of him and
make it easier for him to get ready for work each day.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
That is the way a complementarian wife
described how she lives out her “role” of being born “to serve.”</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
<b>What’s wrong with this picture? </b>The wife serves the husband by
doing for him what he can easily do for himself and by doing what she does
every day for herself, their children, and another adult (her husband) who is
quite capable of not only taking care of his own clothing but also of helping
his wife to meet the entire family’s need in that and other areas—If he so
chose. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
We
are not saying that wives and husbands should not assist each other in any or
all of these things on a regular basis as we follow the example of Jesus in serving and loving one another. But to bring this into perspective, let’s
take a look at some leaders this blogger referenced as “inspirational.” She
listed complementarian patriarchs such as John Piper and Voddie Baucham as sources
of encouragement and inspiration to Christian wives. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
The above mentioned men, and others like
them, such as Wayne Grudem, have dedicated their lives to teaching men that
they are born to serve—but only in a leadership capacity. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
Grudem,
a Research Professor of Theology and Biblical Studies at Phoenix
Seminary in Phoenix, Arizona and Board member of the Council for Biblical
Manhood and Womanhood (CBMW), writes
that being a helper does not always imply subordination (but with women he says
it does). That he cannot stomach the idea that a man might be thought of as a
helper in the same sense that he perceives a woman might is made clear from his
statement that, “Eve
was created as a helper for Adam, <i>not</i>
Adam as a helper for Eve.” (<span style="font-size: 9pt;">Biblical Foundations for Manhood and Womanhood,
Crossway Books, Wheaton, IL, 2002</span>).<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
The <a href="http://www.biblicalwoman.com/equip/homemaking-house/">Horner Homemaking House</a>, located on the campus of Southwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary (an institution
devoted to caste in teaching women and men that they are born into certain
inviolate “roles”), is another example of the complementarian double standard
when it comes to servant-hood and what that means. The Homemaking House facilitates
the school’s “homemaking concentration” at a Bachelor’s and even Master’s
Degree level for women. Its stated purpose is to equip women for ministry in
the home. <i>Male students are not permitted
to take this course</i>. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing">
What a travesty that the blessed words of
scripture are twisted and so used to keep men and women bound by the cords of
caste. </div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt;">
There is a vast difference between the serv<i>itude</i> of women imposed by The Council
for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood and the servant-<i>hood</i> of Christ which all Christians should look to imitate as an
example of pure love. </div>

On December 27, Complementarian author and speaker, Nancy Leigh DeMoss posted a tweet that said, "Whatever makes me need God is a blessing."<br />
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en">
Whatever makes me need God is a blessing. [Cualquier cosa que me haga necesitar a Dios es una bendición.]<br />
— Nancy Leigh DeMoss (@NancyDeMoss) <a href="https://twitter.com/NancyDeMoss/statuses/416447455673073665">December 27, 2013</a></blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script> In a sad display of how the blind lead the blind in complementarianism and the gross biblical illiteracy of many Christians, that tweet is being enthusiastically retweeted and favorited by DeMoss' followers. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Is DeMoss missing the point altogether that we all need God, <i>anyway</i>--even without difficult circumstances that may highlight that need? Nowhere in scripture do we read of such a concept, that <i>anything </i>that makes us more aware of our need for God is a blessing.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Thankfully, Waneta Dawn, <a href="http://wanetadawn.com/">author</a> and victim's advocate, recognized the danger in that statement when applied to high risk situations that would no doubt cause a person to become more aware of their need for God.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
In response to DeMoss' remark, Dawn tweeted a few extreme examples of situations that might cause a person to become more aware of their need for God, but that no one in their right mind would call a blessing:</div>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en">
According to Nancy Leigh Demoss getting <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23beaten&src=hash">#beaten</a> by your <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23husband&src=hash">#husband</a> is a blessing, since it causes you to need God. <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23domesticViolence&src=hash">#domesticViolence</a><br />
— Waneta Dawn (@wanetadawn) <a href="https://twitter.com/wanetadawn/statuses/418280767915954176">January 1, 2014</a></blockquote>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en">
According to Nancy Leigh DeMoss, your husband sexually assaulting your child is a blessing, because it makes you need God. <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23complementarian&src=hash">#complementarian</a><br />
— Waneta Dawn (@wanetadawn) <a href="https://twitter.com/wanetadawn/statuses/418281429739380736">January 1, 2014</a></blockquote>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> The blind acceptance of DeMoss' tweet and the enthusiastic sharing of it just goes to show that when a complementarian leader says nonsensical things, people are
pressured to think they are some sage, so they decide that it's so profound
that they just go along with it. Often they do more than just go along with it, they laud it as deep and insightful when, in reality, it makes no sense whatsoever. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> Where are the critical thinkers? Where are the Christians who know their Bibles? </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">DeMoss' remark is a dangerous corruption of the verse in Romans where Christians are told that all things work together for good to those who love God and to those who are the called according to his purpose. She may also have had the verse in mind where Christians are commanded to praise God </span><i style="font-family: inherit;">in</i><span style="font-family: inherit;"> all things. But in neither of these verses are Christians told the curse is a blessing nor are we commanded to praise God </span><i style="font-family: inherit;">for </i><span style="font-family: inherit;">the things that may, because they are horrible things, draw us closer to him. Or, the other option is, that she had no scripture in mind at all but was just speaking out of her own mind. Regardless of where the comment came from, it is wrong.</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> Dawn cited wife-beating as a situation that would make a woman more aware of her need for God. Following DeMoss' reasoning, being battered could be considered a blessing because it could cause the battered wife to know she needs God. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit;"> This is not only ludicrous, but a dangerous line of reasoning--especially when coming from a complementarian leader like </span><span style="font-family: inherit;">DeMoss who advises wives in abusive situations to </span><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;">leave if they have to, but to </span><i style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;">never</i><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;">, under </span><i style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;">any</i><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;"> circumstances, consider divorce. If a separation must take
place, she counsels that during the separation, the abused wife is to maintain
an attitude of <i>reverence </i>towards her abuser’s divinely mandated position of
authority over her (Lies Women Believe, Moody Publishers, 2006).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 11pt; line-height: 115%;"> Complementarian leaders rarely show too much concern for victims in their risky paradigm of authority and submission based on gender. Wa</span><span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">yne Grude</span><span style="line-height: 115%;">m, whose teachings DeMoss admires and promotes, blames wives just as much as husbands for abuse in Christian marriages. Below is a 2012 quote from </span></span><a href="http://thegospelcoalition.org/blogs/justintaylor/2012/03/17/complementarian-decision-making-as-a-couple/">Wayne Grudem</a>.<br />

<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
In reading the story below, I became more convinced than ever that it is time to deal with the issue of how
"single-divorced-formerly abused-women" are often viewed and treated within
the patriarchal complementarian Christian community.<br />
No doubt this is a key
issue in the battle of freedom for Christian women. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
This subject is the elephant in the room
that everyone knows is there, but no one wants to talk about, much less deal
with. I want to thank Connie Smith for contacting FreeCWC and having the courage to
share her story and her words of encouragement in hopes that others might be helped. ~~jocelyn andersen</div>

<b>How single, divorced, and
formerly abused women are viewed and treated within their local churches: My Story </b><b>By Connie Smith</b></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
I am a formerly abused wife who experienced
verbal, emotional, and physical abuse within my marriage. My pastor was aware
of the abuse before my husband and I separated, because I had gone to him for help with
our situation. After my husband and I finally separated due to physical
violence, my pastor told me to drop the restraining order I had been granted and
to allow my violent husband back into the house. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
A few members of my church family were
secretly supportive of me after my husband and I separated, but they did not
dare let our pastor know of their support as he had made it very clear that the
head of the home needed to have his “rightful” and “entitled” place back in our
home. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
I wanted to honor God, but I also wanted to
stay alive. I had my husband arrested
for his physical violence against me, and then he filed for a divorce, which I
agreed to. After that, I tried to put the pieces of my life back together and to remain at my church with the people who I felt were my church family. I
had been attending and serving there for all of my Christian life,
and my children and I needed our church family’s support and friendship more
than we ever had before. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
We did not get it. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
For quite some time after the divorce, I
felt as though I had been branded by my “sin” of divorce and was being forced
to wear the shameful scarlet letter. Although (to my knowledge) my former
husband was not subjected to the same derogatory attitudes from the Christian
community as I was.<br />
Even though I had not committed the sin of adultery, and I
was not the one who sought the divorce, I felt a kinship with the woman in the
Bible who had been taken in adultery and was condemned to be stoned before
Jesus intervened and saved her life. There was no doubt that she had sinned,
but where was the man in that situation? He was there, and he had sinned too,
but he had not been condemned to death like the woman had been. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
Why not? He had committed adultery too. But,
for whatever the reason, his sin had simply been overlooked by the male
leadership of his day. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
As a divorced, formerly abused, woman, I
found it increasingly difficult to feel welcomed and loved at the church I had
called home for eight years. In all the time I had been there, I had never felt
pain and rejection such as this. I was hurting. I had experienced a devastating
loss. I had loved my husband. The divorce was not my idea, and I fully expected
my church family to rally around me and my children with comfort and support. I
expected they would weep with me and help me to bear a very heavy burden. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
I have watched as Christians supported those
who have lost spouses due to death, but while I was experiencing personal
devastation when my marriage ended in divorce, there was no group of caring people
gathered around to support me and my children in our loss. Why is it that
Christians fail to realize that in divorce an overwhelming loss is suffered, as
well as in widowhood? As a psychology major and having gone through divorce
myself, I can tell you that divorce is also loss that requires a grieving
process. However, the Christian
community rarely accepts it as such. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
I
struggled with wanting to be accepted by my church family but felt condemned by
many of them for granting my abuser a divorce and attempting to move on with my
life. As I became stronger and more confident that I had done the right thing
in leaving my abusive situation and cooperating with the divorce that <i>he</i> sought, I sensed strong attitudes of
disapproval coming from my church leadership and from much of my church family. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
I found myself leaving church services with
my “tank empty” so to speak. Instead of being uplifted and encouraged, I felt
condemned and discouraged. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
After my divorce, there was no doubt that I
was being viewed differently by the leadership of my church than before. And
that, in turn, influenced the way my fellow church members viewed me. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
I reached out to a woman in my church who
told me that the church leadership was more accepting of her once she changed
her “divorced” status by marrying again.
</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
Another woman who had divorced an abusive
spouse finally gave up and left our church after our pastor directed many
degrading comments and jabs at her about being divorced. But I clung to the
hope that, for me and my family, things would change for the better. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
After my experience with abuse, divorce, and
the resultant decline in the level of respect I received from my church
leadership (and from some of the members as well), I felt a desire to reach out
and help women who were going through the painful issues of abuse and divorce
by starting a support group at a facility associated with my church—both my
educational background and personal experience more than qualified me to lead
such a group. In a meeting with our all male Board of Directors, I was able to
communicate the fact that divorce is just as much a loss as death—sometimes
worse—because the lost spouse is still alive.<br />
I also wanted to help raise awareness of the discrimination directed towards divorced and previously abused women in our church who were still single. I hoped to bring about positive change. I wanted to be a healing link between church leadership and divorced women who had experienced marital abuse.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
I felt I was getting nowhere with the Board members. It was
like I was speaking to a brick wall, and it hit me like a ton of bricks, that
not only was I considered unfit for leadership at my church because I was
divorced, but the mere fact that I was not married was also being held against
me! </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
They did finally agree to allow me to start the group with the stipulation that I use approved
materials. That was a standard, reasonable, request. But I was stunned
when I was told that in order to hold the meetings, a <i>married</i> woman had to co-facilitate with me. </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
This was outrageous to say the least,
especially coming from a denomination that has traditionally ordained women as
pastors and leaders. Being married, to my knowledge, had never been a
requirement for church leadership—certainly not among the male leadership. It
seemed strange to me that the only qualification the Board of Directors was
concerned about in the matter of my co-leader, was that she be married.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
It was a sad day, for me, when I felt forced
to leave the place that had been my church home for so long. But I felt as
if I had been spinning my wheels and there was no more tread left. It was time
to go.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
I visited a new church where I was welcomed
with open arms. I felt grateful that
there was a church in my city where functional equality between men and women
was taught and practiced. No one there condemned me for protecting myself and
my children by granting a divorce to an abusive spouse.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
This season is all about Jesus, our
Redeemer’s birth, and I want to pass on that same support, that I am now receiving from my new church family, to hurting women where ever you may be. I want to encourage you not to
give up on the promises that the Lord has given in his Word, and to remain
faithful to His promises that are encased in love.</div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
Have you experienced the horrors of abuse
and then added to that the pain of rejection from brothers and sisters in
Christ who were supposed to be there for you in your time of trial? Remember, you
are <i>redeemed</i> through the birth of
that small baby who was laid in a manger, and his hands are reaching out for
you today! Yes, YOU! </div>
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
If someone has branded you with a scarlet
letter, rip it off! Remember it is the scarlet life-blood that totally redeems
you. Let no one keep you branded. There is a confidence that comes when we
realize that the Lord has redeemed us. We often will not even have to speak,
and the nay-sayers will see that we are changed. Sometimes our silence is
stronger and more convicting on their hearts than words could ever be. </div>
<br />
<div class="MsoNoSpacing" style="text-align: justify;">
And remember that whatever has happened to
you has happened to Him. Our Lord was abused and rejected. And like him, we
were meant for victory. We were made to glorify Him! </div>

<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">Is a soft-spoken,
politically correct, and diplomatic approach always the best way to deal with
the subject of hierarchal role religion based on sex? Role religion paradigms
such as patriarchal complementarianism that require female subjection
to male control, are so detrimental to so many (even resulting in death for </span><a href="http://www.blogtalkradio.com/jocelynandersen/2011/04/02/the-michael-pearl-method-of-child-training-corporal-punsihment-deadly-discipline" style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">some</a><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">) that it no longer make sense to waste years on dialogue that to date, as
far as the status of Christian women are concerned, has gotten us as good as nowhere.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> The Freedom
for Christian Women Coalition (FreeCWC) is sometimes accused of not being “irenic,”</span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> but the truth is
that </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">FreeCWC is irenic in the
truest sense of the word which is defined as, “aimed at peace” or “promoting or
intended to promote peace.” </span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;">That has always been our ultimate goal. We believe
that functional equality between all Christians is the only medium in which true
peace can exist. That basic premise underlies all we do in the battle for
freedom for Christian women, and men. It should come as no surprise that many men, as well as women, have also grown weary of being
dictated to by those who have declared themselves to be the last word on
Christian living and relationships. </span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0.0001pt; text-align: justify;">

women, we have the Biblical example of our Savior, who is also called the
Prince of Peace, who never shied away from aggressive words or behavior when the
situation called for it (Matthew 3:7, 10:34-37, John 2:15).<o:p></o:p></span></div>

about true peace through functional equality stands in stark contrast to the writings of
many evangelical leaders who advocate war instead. One example of this is well
known pastor and teacher, John MacArthur who, in his teaching “The Fulfilled
Family” quoted</span><span style="font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 13.5pt;"> </span><span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 13.5pt; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">World War Two Field

achieve victory the young man must not only win her, he must defeat her and her

equality along with the Freedom for Christian Women Coalition are simply striving
to overthrow the heinous, unbiblical, and dangerous precept of perpetual female

<strong>We are so thankful to Shirley</strong> for all she has done and continues to do in promoting equality for Christian women <i><span style="text-decoration: underline;">and men</span>! </i>We must remember that the burden placed upon men by complementarianism is un-natural, unscriptural, and unwelcome for so many.<br />
<br />
There are many Christian men who stand with Shirley and with FreeCWC in advocating for equality.<br />

<a href="http://archive.org/details/SchaapResponds">http://archive.org/details/SchaapResponds</a> See this video of Jack Schaap who was just fired as pastor of First Baptist Church of Hammond, a mega-church with approximately 15,000 in attendence each Sunday. Schapp, who has been married to his wife Cindy for thirty years was fired for having an affair with a 16 year old girl. FreeCWC Special Consultants, Hannah Thomas and Cindy Kunsman have written about the story in more detail at the following links. </div>

<strong>Shirley Taylor</strong> receives emails from Christians who read her thrice-weekly blog posts and encourage her to keep speaking out. They say they are not yet ready to speak out for themselves but are so happy that Shirley is speaking out for them in the cause of freedom for Chrisitian women.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>Cindy Kunsman</strong> was told that many eyes were opened by her expert presentation in Montreal and encouraged to continue in her advocacy for victims of the spiritual and physical abuses inherent in the paradigms of patriarchy and complementarianism.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<strong>FreeCWC received this email from one of our subscribers:</strong> The patriarchs, who still call themselves "pro-life" and "pro-family", know their way of life is over when they see the first African American President or the first woman to have a realistic chance of becoming Vice President. <em>I am not concerned with what ticket anyone may have voted for. That is irrelevant to this discussion</em>; it is that they who still hold to segregation, racial and/or gender, have to know that they can join us or not, but it will never be the same again. They will never be the same again! "Pro-life", and "pro-family" are good things, things we should all support, and it was not my intention to paint with too broad a brush; however, the day is coming when patriarchy will no longer be able to hide under a good name, not even "complementarian". This is not the time to be complacent. We must continue to support Biblical equality. We are to spread the Blessing (Galatians 3: 29), and destroy, not perpetuate, the Curse! This is so exciting! Thank you for being such a vital part of what God is doing!</div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
In July, our own Cindy Kunsman traveled to Montreal and delivered a powerful 40 minute presentation of spiritually abusive patriarchy at the Annual Conference of the International Cultic Studies Association. The title of her presentation was "The Popularity of Christian Evangelical Patriarchy in the US and the Resultant Vilification and Abuse of Women and Children." </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
She did not neglect to address the evils of complementarianism in her talk. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Cindy does much good for Christian women and children with her courageous advocacy.</div>
